My Sunday at the beach

Yesterday afternoon me and mum went to kororo beach, we walked all the way from home and it took about 20 minutes. When we got to the beach there was no people (Which is good) that is becuase we are still social distansing due to COVID19, what there was was lots of stones and drift wood.

The wood gets washed down the river out to sea where it gets pushed up on to the beach. At the beach in kororo there is a little stream, the stream is where there is a dip in the beach rocks where water collects as it trickles out to sea, the water comes from other streams and small creaks.

We noticed in one part of this stream there where an couple rocks sticking out of the water, they reminded us of a damn and so that gave us the idea to build a damn.

We built the damn out of lots of different sized rocks and stones, we layed them out like a line streetched across the water like a bridge. because the water wasn't deap we could sometimes stand in it without getting to wet, as we were building the damn and getting closer to the middle we had to stand on it to keep our shoes dry.

When we first started building it we were each at one side working our way to the middle, when we had finished for the first time i noticed that there were big holes so we used small stones and sand to fill them up.

After we had done that we noticed something else, the water was still trickling through but big things like leaves and dirty scum where being stoped by the damn. Our damn was like a filter.

Dirty water with allsorts floating in it came towads the damn but cleaner water was coming out of it. all of the junk that was floating down stream got stuck at the front of or damn or was caught in the rocks.

We thought this was pretty cool and we did not intend to do it but it happend, next sunny day we will go back to se how much has built up.
